Second Knockout competition of 2018

This is always a popular evening. Over thirty images were submitted for this contest where, in rounds, two photographs are displayed on the screen. Members then vote Right or Left and the higher scoring image goes through to the next round. The excitement and interest grows as each round is shown, until eventually it does […]

How to take Portraits by Tony McCann

Tony is highly respected for his many varied portraits and it was a privilege to share his knowledge and experience. He led us through helpful steps to set up, using lighting such as a simple reflector, diffuser or flash. His emphasis on concentrating on the eyes of the subject was especially interesting. Editing led us […]

Members Challenge ‘Working with Special Effects’ – PDI

Our chairman, Rod Smith, welcomed members who had, somewhat surprisingly, braved the weather to attend! Several members contributed items this evening. A double Bill: Gurushots and Zimanga

Phil Dobson and June Atkinson stepped in at short notice to highlight two very different topics. On our behalf, Phil is responsible for our participation in Gurushots, a global competition network of photographers. Having seen how members have responded and entered images, we are doing well. We have moved from Newbie, through Rookie to Expert!! […]

There was a great variety of subjects, testing David’s keen eye and photographic insight. He also gave sound practical advice on preparing one’s work for sending in to the Judge. He was not afraid to […]

She is a past President of Hexham Photographic Society, where she gained her LRPS. She also won the Hunting Category of Leica Fieldsports Photographer of the Year […]

Ponteland Wheelbarrow Race 1st January 2018

A rainbow heralded the 2018 Ponteland Wheelbarrow Race, based at The Blackbird. A good crowd gathered to see the three races: Youngsters, Ladies and Open. Mayor Alan Varley attended with his wife and later he presented the prizes. A tremendous amount of effort goes into an event like this. Thanks to all groups who participated. […]
