Mr Frank Craighead Thomson, 21 June 1936 – 16 November 2016
Frank was a long-serving committee member and Treasurer and a staunch supporter of the Ponteland Photographic Society for many years. He originally joined the club just after it’s formation in 1978 and very quickly became Treasurer probably because of his analytical skills but possibly not unrelated to his Scottish heritage! Frank was also the club’s long term representative on the Northern Counties Photographic Federation North Tyne Area committee. The North Tyne Area are responsible for organising the bi-annual inter-club photography competitions in the region.
In 2009 Frank’s image The Precipice was selected as Best Picture in the Projected Images competition. Shown below are the actual image and Ian Woodley, Chairman of the NCPF, presenting the award to Frank.
His photographic talent was of the highest order and Frank’s love of the Alps and skiing were legendary, and this showed through in the excellence of his photographic images of the area. You can see more of his pictures here – Frank Thomson.
Members have over the years valued not only Frank’s practical computer and photographic expertise, but also his friendship and humour. Frank was always willing to help colleagues and provide common sense advice. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
