My childhood interest in photography was kindled by the intrigues of my Mum’s Brownie box camera - winding the 8 exposure Ilford 120 film around 3 sides of the internal cassette, struggling to see anything discernible in the tiny back-to-front viewfinder, and then wondering whether or not the previous user had wound the film on for the next shot!!
Over the years life got simpler, first with a 35mm Agfa Sillette, next an SLR and then with a number of pocket-sized and bridge Panasonic Lumix cameras as the wonders of the digital world opened up new horizons. I’m pleased to say results improved! Winning a free year’s membership of the Ponteland Photographic Society at the Village Flower Show in the early 1980’s set me on a path of looking for ways to improve my skills in a friendly and non-competitive environment, and to encourage others to develop their interest in this fascinating hobby.
Many years serving on the committee and as Chairman were to follow and I was honoured to be elected as President of the Society in 2019.
